It's exciting to be in Riverside, CA at Christmas. The stores are full of people, the parking lots are full of cars and the freeways are like race tracks. The neighbors are beginning to decorate their homes.
The great anticipation is the day that they light up the lights at the Mission Inn in Riverside, CA. What a sight!
Close to fifty thousand people will visit the Inn to see this incredible sight...If you are close by,
it will be worth the trip!
Inside the houses, we are decorating trees. Outside, we are setting up Nativity scenes, snow men and Christmas decorations of all kinds. Riverside is a great place to live during Christmas time.
However, let's think for a moment. Where did this idea of Christmas originate? No matter what we think about Christianity, if we are honest we all know it is because of Jesus. Isn't it amazing? In America, it appears that from Washington to our school systems we are trying to remove His name from this glorious event of history. Even our military is making it more and more difficult for chaplains to speak of Christ...I know...I have a nephew who declares it so. He is a U.S. Military Chaplin.
Irony: this wonderfully warm, heartfelt feeling no longer accepts the name of the person that brought it up into being.
Yes, even here in Riverside, we hear "Happy Holidays" far more than "Merry Christmas". Also you know we no longer celebrate Easter in our Easter season, but "Spring Break".
We all would be deeply offended if people treated our birthday so crudely, totally divorcing us from it. I wonder how God feels about how we treat His Son's birth?
I vote to bring back "Merry Christmas". How about you?
